Robin Hornung, MD, MPH, FAAD
Dr. Hornung completed her undergraduate education at Yale University with a BS degree in Geology and Geophysics. She also received her medical degree at the Yale School of Medicine, then began her formal residency training with an internship in Pediatrics at Duke University Medical School, followed by three years of dermatology residency there too. She then completed a two-year fellowship in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of North Carolina, where she also completed a residency in Preventive Medicine and got a Masters Degree in Public Health. It was during her fellowship that she developed tools for beginning her career in academic medicine at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital, where she saw patients and taught medical students and residents, co-founded the Vascular Anomalies Clinic, and did research and published many articles in skin cancer prevention, focusing on the indoor tanning “epidemic” as well as tanning addiction.
Dr. Hornung’s clinical passion is in pediatric dermatology where she treats everything from various rashes like eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and infections, as well as diagnosing or assessing many different birthmarks and moles and acne in kids. She also has expertise in laser treatment of vascular birthmarks in babies and children, including hemangiomas and port wine stains. On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Hornung also loves to treat similar conditions in adults, as well as skin cancers. Finally, Dr. Hornung also offers telemedicine for patients who do not want to drive long distances for their appointments, or for those who have tight schedules in school or work, where spending a couple hours driving to/from the appointment will create a challenge.
In her spare time, Dr. Hornung loves to hike, travel, cook, read, and spend time with her husband and three sons and her dog named Barkley! Growing up in northern Idaho, while her father had a career overseas, she was able to explore and spend time in various countries such as Indonesia, Iran, Bahrain, and Colombia. She also did medical research for several months in Tanzania, and tropical dermatology training for several months in Brazil. She embraces travel adventures, especially for their cultural and social education, and the fantastic memories they create.
